Virtual District History Day

Ten Nevada Middle School students qualified for Virtual State History Day competition, and two students were named alternates in the Virtual District History Day Contest coordinated online by Central College in Pella from April 2-11.
Students who qualified for the state contest are Taylyn Angus and Ria Patel for their documentary “The Deaf President Now Protest”; Lynze Geerdes and Mady Gibson for their website “The 99ers”; Abbigale Holm and Gwendolyn Zrostlik for their website “Nellie Bly”; Olivia Axmear for her website “All-American Girls Professional Baseball League”; August Martinez for her historical paper “Dr. Ludwig Guttmann and The Paralympic Games”; Kaelyn Banks for her exhibit “First Lady of Song”; and Kira Brockman for her performance “Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell.”
In addition, Graci Schiller and Reagan Schmidt were named state alternates for their website “Manon Rheaume.”
Several students also received special awards in the following categories:
Superior Knowledge of Topic-- Carter Holland and Ian Thomas (The War of the Currents)
Outstanding Presentation—Kaelyn Banks (“First Lady of Song”) and Garrett Barber and Gavin Skaggs (Janet Guthrie)
Unusual Topic—Lynze Geerdes and Mady Gibson (The 99ers)
Virtual State History Day Contest will be judged online May 4-7, sponsored by the State Historical Society of Iowa.
